Fridtjof Nansen Award for outstanding research to Torsvik and Gaina member of The Norwegian Academy
On 3 May, The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters helt its annual meeting. Several prizes were awarded, among them, Fridtjof Nansen Award of Excellence in Science and also new members of the Norwegian Academy were honored. Two distinctions went to CEED this day.
Fridtjof Nansen Award of Excellence - Trond Helge Torsvik
The sought after Fridtjof Nansen Award of Excellence in Science, was given Trond Helge Torsvik, former Director, now Deputy Head of CEED, and Professor at the CEED centre and Dept of Geosciences/University of Oslo.
Torsvik receives the Fridtjof Nansen Award of Excellence for his outstanding research in the field of geophysics.
This year, 32 new members were elected as member of The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, among them 25 Norwegian and 7 foreign members.
From the new Norwegian members in the Mathematical-Natural Sciences class, we find CEED's Director and Professor Carmen Gaina.
The annual meeting of The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters also had a scientific program with several lectures in addition to the award ceremony. H.K.H. Crown Prince Haakon was present during the meeting and the following dinner.
