Measuring the metal content of Damped Lyman Alpha systems (DLAs)

In this talk I will present our study on Damped Lyman Alpha absorbers. DLAs are clouds of neutral gas expected to reside on the densest regions of the universe. Through a new parametrization, called Metal Strength, we are able to measure a new characteristic of the DLAs, a combination of their metallicity and velocity dispersion. We used this method for more than 20,000 objects, measuring the dependence of the bias of DLAs with one of their characteristics. Also, this methodology allows for unprecedent detection of new metal lines in the DLA spectra, like Argon, Chromium and Cobalt.
