Geometrical tests of the FRW metric
The universe is observed to be statistically homogeneous and isotropic, but this does not imply that it would be described by the FRW metric. It is possible to test the validity of the FRW metric without assumptions about the matter content or the theory of gravity on cosmological scales, using only geometrical optics. I will discuss such tests and their results.
