Mitra has been retired

Mitra, one of our former important storage servers, was switched off this week after six years of operation. This also marks the end of the Solaris operating system at our Institute, which mitra was the last computer to run.

Minor problems

Mitra has been the home of a lot of data and home directories of the Institute's students and employees. This means that the disks have been automounted on a lot of computers. You may experience that your workstation hangs the next time you try to reboot it.

In addition to this, some of you may have /mn/mitra in your paths or elsewhere in your setup. If you are experiencing mysterious problems such as the terminal program hanging, or programs crashing a lot (that did not crash before), check your .cshrc/.bashrc/.login files for any instances of mitra and remove these. You should also remove any symbolic links you may have from your home directory to mitra.

As always, we are available to help you. Drop by our office or send us an e-mail at data-hjelp@astro.uio.no.
