New office phones

We have begun replacing the old, analog office phones with new, nifty VoIP phones.

A couple of things that is good to know:

Manuals

USIT has created a user manual for the Polycom phones in norwegian and english. Those who have recieved Cisco phones, should also have recieved a printed manual. If not you can drop by our office and get one.

Administration website

The phone can be administered by logging in to https://voip1-mgmt1.uio.no/ukomm/auth.php (unfortunately only in norwegian). There you can do nice things such as transfer your calls to another university number or answering machine, and create conference calls. For those of you with a mobile phone paid for by the university, this is where you'll now transfer your office phone to the mobile (it's no longer possible to do it on the phone apparatus).

False calls

There is a small problem with false calls from weird numbers. These are actually login attempts (brute force attacks), since the phone has its own IP number and the hackers don't know that there's a phone at the other end instead of a computer. These attacks are harmless (on the phones at least), but can be a bit annoying. We're working on closing down the network in order to remove them.

Where can you call?

The default access for employees is class 7, which enables you to call Europe, USA and Canada. If you need to have the ability to call other countries, you'll have to talk to your leader as the Institute will have to pay extra for it. You can double check which countries you can call by logging on to the administration website (https://voip1-mgmt1.uio.no/ukomm/auth.php, «Oversikt» -> «Kan ringe til»).

Problems

If you're having any problems, please tell us with as much information as possible, (i.e. which number/country you tried to call, did it work on the old phones, does it work from neighbour's phone etc).
