"Big Questions About The Universe"

Abstract

Over the past 10 years or so, a standard model for cosmology has emerged. In this model, which shows deep connections with fundamental physics, a few parameters describe the evolution of the Universe from its dawn to the present day. These parameters are observationally constrained with unprecedented precision, thanks to the latest observational efforts. The standard cosmological model, however, has many deep open questions such as, “What makes up most of the content of the Universe?", “What is the physics describing the origin of the Universe?”, “What fuels the expansion of the Universe?”. Over the coming years, new cosmological data will provide ever more rigorous tests of the cosmological standard model and searches for physics beyond it. These observations will be fundamental in addressing these unanswered questions

About the Rosseland Lecture

To honor the memory of Norway's most prominent astrophysicist, Professor Svein Rosseland, the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics every year invites a leading international astrophysicist to hold the Rosseland lecture on a date close to Rosselands birthday.
