Dr. Rosine Lallement (Service d'Aeronomie du CNRS): "Results of the SWAN experiment on board SOHO: 3D solar wind and boundaries of the heliosphere"

Fredagskollokvium

Abstract

SWAN is a Lyman-alpha imager formed by a pair of 5x5 degrees sensors, each one equipped with a absorbing hydrogen cell, flying on board the ESA/NASA SOHO spacecraft. SWAN records maps of the diffuse emission due to resonance scattering of solar Ly-alpha photons by the interstellar atomic hydrogen which flows within the solar system. I will describe briefly the observations of SOHO/SWAN and its main results.
