Øystein Langangen: High resolution spectroscopy and measurements of velocities

Fredagskollokvium

Abstract.

As ground based telescopes have increased their ability to resolve smaller and smaller structures, detection of small scale magnetic elements such as bright points and "ribbons" has become more and more common.

Using the 1-m Swedish Solar Tower(SST), we have obtained the highest spatial resolution (~ 0.15'') spectrograms of small scale magnetic elements to this date. I will talk about how these spectrograms were obtained and reduced and how we use these spectrograms to obtain the flow. Furthermore we can use simulations to calibrate the absolute height of this flow. Some preliminary results of this calibration are presented.
