Abstract
The ten year anniversary of the first localized optical afterglow of a gamma-ray burst is nearing. I summarize the major discoveries and properties of GRBs during this past decade. The observational efforts have proved to be of chief importance and NOT has played a central role in this respect. I will give examples of the observational strategies that are employed and present some recent results.
