Asgeir Brekke (Universitetet i Tromsø): Some ionospheric studies by use of EISCAT

Fredagskollokvium (OBS! Klokkeslett endret)

Abstract

A presentation of the EISCAT (European Incoherent Scatter Radar Association) facilities and the principles for incoherent scattering will followed by some examples of scientific results obtained during the later years especially related to ionospheric dynamics illustrated by consequences of the interaction between the neutral and ionized parts of the polar E-region. Observations of exotic phenomena such as NEIALs (Naturally enhanced ion acoustic lines) and PMSE (Polar Mesospheric Summer Echoes) will be demonstrated. The use of EISCAT for monitoring space debris will also be presented as well as plans for a new phased array radar system in Northern Scandinavia.
