Fredagskollokvium: Oddbjørn Engvold: Detection of a new type of dynamic feature in the solar atmosphere

Oddbjørn Engvold, Institutt for teoretisk astrofysikk, UiO

High-cadence high spatial resolution observations in H-alpha with the Swedish 1 m Solar Telescope on La Palma have revealed the existence of small-scale, highly dynamic bright structures. They slide along thin magnetic flux tubes at speeds in the range from about 40 km/s to more than 100 km/s. Corresponding structures were subsequently detected in higher temperature lines in observations from the Solar Dynamics Observatory. The characteristics of these structures will be presented and discussed. The dynamic character of these structures is similar to what can be expected from MHD fast-mode pulses.
