Nonlinear plasma wave phenomena are discussed from first principles by using Radio Luxemburg (and the so-called Luxemburg effect) as reference case. The derivation of the linear and nonlinear Schrödinger equations is outlined for this context. Some of the properties of this equation will be discussed with attention to observations in nature, plasma media in particular.
