Fredagskollokvium: Marit Sandstad: Topology - what is it and why should you care.

Before I came to this spacious institute, I used to work in two-dimensions. I was not working in Denmark, and I flatter my self it was not due to my inherent shallowness either. Actually it was all to do with geometry and topology. In this talk I will explain briefly and hopefully in fairly uncomplicated terms what geometry and topology is, and give a few examples of why you should find this interesting too. Examples will include the topology of the Universe, designer universes and the slightest touch of string theory.
