Fredagskollokvium: Gregal Vissers: Flocculent flows in the chromosphere

Gregal Vissers, Institutt for teoretisk astrofysikk, UiO

High-quality imaging spectroscopy data, recently obtained in the Halpha line with the Crisp Imaging SpectroPolarimeter (CRISP) at the Swedish 1-m Solar Telescope (SST) at La Palma, show ubiquitous streams of dark blobs in the vicinity of a small sunspot with a rudimentary penumbra. These blobs propagate at typically supersonic velocities along fibrils making up the sunspot's superpenumbra as well as the chromospheric canopy in general, and appear to be common to active regions. In this talk I will report on our study of this phenomenon, quantifying further the spectral, dynamic and morphological properties, as well as discussing our findings in the light of similar (and possibly related) phenomena such as the inverse Evershed effect and coronal rain.
