I will give a non-technical review of early universe String cosmology, focussing on how cosmic inflation may be embedded in both the closed string and open string sectors. Following this, I will discuss how the U(1) vector fields that arise on the world-volumes of D-branes may play the role of curvatons, which can lead to statistical anisotropy in the power spectrum of the curvature perturbation.
