Fredagskollokvium: The search for Dark Matter : do we need a "Copernican Revolution" ?

Anna Lipniacka, Professor, Institutt for Fysikk og Teknologi, Universitetet i Bergen

While Weakly Interacting Massive Particles remain prime candidate for Dark Matter
due to so called "WIMP miracle" other ideas for DM have been recently gaining momentum.
Expecting   DM to be part of a relatively simple "fix" to the  Standard Model
of our matter may result from   natural anthropocentric tendencies.
There is no experimental evidence preventing Dark Matter to be like our matter: thus
consisting of many types of particles which self-interact and form structures, perhaps even
intelligent structures. If they do indeed exist we are the dark matter
from their point of view!
Can WIMP paradigm be experimentally refuted? What are the possible detection methods
of other plausible DM candidates? I will discuss a small  personal selection of "beyond-WIMPS"
DM models  including Asymmetric Dark Matter, together with possible detection methods
compared to that for WIMPS. Relatively recent experimental results will be given.
