New Faces: Nico Valiente Parra

We are happy that Nico Valiente Parra from Spain joined CBA! Learn more about him below.

Picture of Nico ValienteBorn in Alcalá del Júcar (central Spain), I have a multidisciplinary background combining engineering, ecology and chemistry. I graduated in Forestry Engineering in 2010, and years later in Chemistry. In 2018, I completed my PhD at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain) about natural attenuation processes of nitrate in a hypersaline lake (Pétrola Lake). During those years, I spent quite some time in Austria, working in environmental chemistry at the University of Vienna. At this time, my interests are mainly focused on studying biogeochemical recycling in extreme environments.

At UiO, I am enrolled in the BiodivERsA project, within the Section for Aquatic Biology and Toxicology. Among other goals, we will evaluate biodiversity and functional trait patterns in relation to environmental drivers (climate, nutrient enrichment, terrestrial land use change) in Arctic freshwaters.
