CBA back in the field

The last months of summer, as well as the autumn, are active field months for Centre for Biogeochemistry in the Anthropocene.

One of CBA's aims is to understand the linkages between water chemistry, microbial communities, and the production of greenhouse gases. We do field work in the lakes surrounding Oslo, on Spitsbergen (2019), as well as in Finnmark and alpine areas on mainland Norway. The work is part of a large international project, Biodiversa. We are studying how the addition of organic C, N and P from precipitation fields along transects and gradients affects the microbial diversity and the production of CO2, CH4, N2O. Microorganisms are analyzed via the use of eDNA.

Pictures below show last week's field work on Finse where samples were taken at several localities from the edge of the glacier to Geilo.
