Course content
This course deals with the composition and evolution of the crust, lithospheric mantle and asthenosphere. Seismic imaging techniques and interpretation of tomographic images in terms of composition and physical properties will be coupled with recent results in petrology, geochemistry and geodynamical modelling to review recent advances in our understanding of the evolution and present state of the continental as well as oceanic lithosphere.

Time and place
The course is taught intensively at the University of Oslo in January 2024. The course will be held physically.
Preparations and exam
The course includes an obligatory presentation on a given topic during the course week. The presentation must be evaluated as approved in order to take the final exam.
A home exam to be delivered up to one month after the course week and within the semester counts 100% towards the final grade.
