The dynamical control of subduction parameters on surface topography

Crameri, F., C. R. Lithgow-Bertelloni, and P. J. Tackley (2017), Geophys. Geosyst., 18(4), 1661–1687, doi:10.1002/2017GC006821

Editor’s Highlight: This study highlights many of the dynamic factors that determine topography at subduction zones. The authors use numerical models of subduction to investigate the primary controls on subduction induced topography, particularly the “dynamic” component arising from stresses/pressure associated with mantle flow beneath the lithospheric plates. Characterizing the relationship between subduction topography and subduction parameters is potentially an important tool for using paleo-topography to constrain paleo-subduction
