The Gregor Johann Mendel and Evolutionary Biology Special Feature celebrates the 200^th anniversary of the birth of Gregor Johann Mendel, who discovered the genetic mechanism of trait inheritance, the missing component of Darwin’s evolutionary theory. The authors of this special feature present a collection of perspectives covering Mendel’s life, work, and contribution to science, with a focus on his impact on the development of modern evolutionary biology.
