Pathways to International Pollinator Partnerships

On July13th 2015 Dr. Nielsen was invited to an event organized by Defra (Department of Food, Agriculture and Rural Affairs in the UK) at the Milan Expo.

The spectacular sculpture of Wolfgang Buttress at the UK pavilion at Milan Expo made quite an impression

The UK pavilion at the Milan Expo 2015 was dedicated to bees. Its physical outline and the main focus of several events were highlighting challenges regarding pollinator declines. For some, unknown, reason Dr. Nielsen was invited to participate in an event on "Pathways to International Pollinator Partnerships". Several presentations from a broad range of people, including social scientists, NGO representatives, bee experts and pollination ecologists sat the stage for discussions on how international collaborations could increase knowledge on pollinator declines among scientists as well as the general public and policy makers. A fascinating session indeed. Defra is following up on the matter and a phone conference was held to keep the consortium alive. It will be interesting to see what the future holds.
