In spring 2023, CompSci welcomed 14 PhD candidates.

During the first day of the seminar, Professor Anders Malthe-Sørenssen, the project leader of CompSci and leader of the Center for Computing in Science Education (CCSE), welcomed everybody and presented the CompSci project. Linda Westgaard and Ilan Villanger, advisers connected to the studies section and ForVei, facilitated the diversity icebreaker and talked about how to give and receive feedback. All the CompSci PhD candidates had the opportunity to present themselves and their work in front of their fellows, as well as to give each other tips and tricks about how to enjoy their stay in Oslo and UiO. It followed a session of professional inspiration with talks from Professor Marianne Fyhn and Dr. Grace Shephard. To conclude, Sølvi Haavik, adviser at the studies section at MN Faculty, talked about cross-cultural communication taking into consideration all the countries where the participants were from.

During the second day of the seminar, Dr. Matthew Good and Dr. Anna Kathinka Dalland Evans gave a brief overview of some of the resources and tools available to all the PhD candidates at UiO (University of Oslo Library). It followed a session about career development, where Professor Anders Malthe-Sørenssen talked about the different elements of the CompSci training programme and Vivienne Lumayag, senior advisor at UiO (Team Competence and organizational development at UiO), helped the doctoral research fellows describe their skills and competences and check if their career prospects are in line with their own values. To conclude the seminar, Ilan talked about what you need most for succeeding.
