Research interest

High-resolution observations of the Sun from ground-based and space-borne instruments. Spectral diagnostics of the different atmospheric layers of the Sun: photosphere, chromosphere, transition region and corona. Comparisons between observations and numerical models of the solar atmosphere. Methods to reduce the disturbing effects of the Earth atmosphere on observations.

Short bio

I am professor in observational solar physics at the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics of the University of Oslo since 2013. I am one of the principle investigators of the Rosseland Centre for Solar Physics (RoCS), a centre of excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway that started in 2017. I am from the Netherlands and received my MSc. in astrophysics from the University of Utrecht in 1997.

After receiving my PhD in solar physics from Stockholm University in 2003, I became affiliated to the University of Oslo. First as postdoctoral fellow, later as associate professor (in 2009). I have long experience with observing with the Swedish 1-metre Solar Telescope (SST) at the island of La Palma in the Canaries (Spain).
