Technological progress has improved assessing the state of the Arctic cryosphere in two ways:
- On one hand, measurements become available at increasing frequency, quality and resolution (satellite remote sensing, novel sensor and communication technology).
- On the other hand, numerical models of most cryospheric processes have been developed and computational progress enables their large-scale application.
However, these two developments have gone in parallel and model applications almost do not make use of frequently updated observations.
To keep model simulations closely tied to observations, we will develop methodology to update model states on-the-fly fed by near real-time datastreams.
Requirements
- MSc in Geosciences, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Geomatics or similar, with a strong background in numerical modelling.
- Previous experience with cryosphere modelling is not a prerequisite for the position, but experience with one or several of the following topics is beneficial :
- cryosphere modelling,
- remote sensing of the cryosphere,
- data assimilation
