Progress reporting at the Institute of Theoretical Astrophyics

The PhD candidate and the supervisors must inform about the progression of the candidates degree from 3rd-semester and onwards.

3rd-semester report (3SR)

The candidate and the supervisors will be called in to a meeting with the local PhD committee. The first reporting (3rd-semester report) will take place between 12 and 15 months after employment.

Procedure:

  • The candidate is to give a short presentation of the project and progress made to the local PhD committee (approx. 15 minutes)
  • The local PhD committee meets the candidate without the supervisors present (approx. 15 minutes)
  • The local PhD committee meets the supervisors without the candidate present (approx. 15 minutes)
  • The local PhD committee writes a report where deviations, if any, are to be specified, and what measures that need to be taken.

Yearly progress reports

The candidates who will be in their fifth semester in the given year, and their respective main supervisor, must hand in a progress report on the PhD degree. The candidates and the main supervisors will hand in separate reports within a given deadline set by the study adm. This will be required from candidates in their 7th or 9th semester as well. (The report will additionally be sent to all other active candidates, except those who will have a 3SR that semester, and is voluntary.)

Procedure

  • The progress report will take place electronically using Nettskjema. Det candidate and main supervisor will get access to their report from the study adm. at the institute. The main supervisor can forward the report to any co-supervisors who have a more active role and/or wishes to report as well.
  • Those who express the need for help will be called in to a meeting with the PhD committee, or only the study adm., to find solutions together.
  • The committee will summarize and write a report which will be sent to the faculty.
