Research
Our research is in the area of pharmaceutical analytical chemistry, and is focused on development of new microextraction concepts. Currently, our activities are related to electromembrane extraction (EME) and liquid-phase microextraction (LPME). EME and LPME can be used to isolate and pre-concentrate drug substances, drug metabolites, endogenous metabolites and peptides from human blood, urine, and saliva.
Our research is conceptual and balanced between fundamental and applied science, including the following activities:
- Proof-of-principle experiments
- Development of mass transfer theory
- Development of equipment (including 96-well and microchip technology)
- Development of forefront pharmaceutical and biomedical applications
- Commercialization
Our research is motivated by the expectation that next generation analytical chemistry will largely rely on microextraction technologies for sample preparation.
Teaching
Teaching is within pharmaceutical analytical chemistry, and is focused on the following activities:
- Chemical testing of pharmaceutical ingredients
- Chemical testing of pharmaceutical preparations
- Determination of drugs in biological fluids
- General analytical chemistry
