MicroPath congratulate Arfa Irej Qureshi (in the middle) with her M.Sc. in Pharmacy. She defended her M.Sc. thesis entitled "Exploring the landscape of bioinformatic tools for fungal identification in shotgun metagenomic sequencing data: For potential applications in colorectal cancer biomarker discovery". The MicroPath group enjoyed a ski trip at Holmenkollen ski arena. It was Elisas first attempt on cross country skies. The group enjoyed hot chocolate and coconut-buns for after-ski at Frognerseteren restaurant.

MicroPath attend a collaborative project meeting with professor Miki Bojesen and senior scientist Fabio Antenucci at the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, University of Copenhagen. MicroPath and the research group of Miki Bojesen are both interested in the use of bacterial extracellular vesicles as vaccines against bacterial infections in One health.

The MicroPath group presents at the MISC conference. MISC is a Norwegian-Chinese-Japanese student and researcher exchange program on the study of microbial surface colonization.

Elisa Mascherin is studying pharmacy at University in Trieste, Italy. She will spend 6 months in our lab working on the outer membrane vesicles as possible vaccine against yersiniosis in fish. She will be supervised by Verena Mertes and Saranya Subramani in the laboratory.

MicroPath is now part of the SPARK program at University of Oslo. We were on of 6 selected projects. The project will continue our work on vaccine development for animal health in close collaboration with INVEN2.

Our PhD student Rebekka Rolfsnes is spending 3 months at The Artic University of Norway in Tromsø. She has joined the group of Hanna-Kirsti Leiros at the Department of Chemistry and is studying the enzyme kinetics of an anti-microbial resistance breaker. Rebekka is supervised by Christopher Frøhlich during her stay in Tromsø.

MicroPath attended at the Norwegian Biochemical Society winter meeting 2023 at Storefjell. Our work was presented with a talk entiteled "Bacterial Extracellular Vesicles in bacterial communication and for nano-medicine in One Health". MicroPath group members chaired a mini-symposium session and participated in the poster prize evaluation commite.

MicroPath attended the annual meeting for the Norwegian Society of Microbiology (NFM) held at the Department of Odontology, University of Oslo. 50 participants from all over Norway were happy to join this physical event after almost three years of Covid-19 restrictions.

MicroPath published a paper on the effect that antibiotic treatment length has on the gut microbiome. The paper is published in the journal PLOS ONE in a collaboration with Fernanda Petersen and Sudhanshu Shekhar the Department of Oral Biology, UiO, and professor emeritus Dag Berild

The UiO:Life Science summer student Ellen-Beate Tysvær presented her work entitled "Vesicle Vaccination against Yersiniosis" at the summer student gathering. Unfortunately, Ellen-Beate could not be there to prestene her work in person, but her poster described it all well.

MicroPath PhD candidate Verena Mertes participate in a three months internship at the Norwegian biotech company ArticZymes technologies. ArticZymes is based in Tromsø and the company develops and produces cold adaptive enzymes. Verenas internship is organized and sponsored by Center of Digital Life Norway.
