Malaria Research in our Institute: Results and Perspectives

Guest lecture by professor Philippe Rasoanaivo, Madagascar.

Dr. Philippe Rasoanaivo is Professor of Organic Chemistry, University of Antananarivo, Madagascar; and Research Director of the Institut Malgache de Recherches Appliques (IMRA), University of Antananarivo, Madagascar.

His areas of specialty include: sustainable uses of the Madagascan biodiversity through:

  • biological screening of plant extracts (malaria, immunomodulation and cancer)
  • compilation and electronic data processing on Malagasy medicinal and aromatic plants
  • research, production and export of essential oils
  • prospects for marketing medicinal plants, phytomedicine development (IMRA has 40 plant-based drugs)
  • drug development in collaboration with pharmaceutical industries
  • chemical structure analysis and biological investigations of bioactive constituents

He has produced more than 100 publications (of which approximately 70 appeared in peer review journals), three patents, and about fifty invited lectures.
