As part of investigating the effects of a novel disinfectant on the skin microbiome, skin microbial samples were taken from groups of individuals before and after use of the disinfectant over a period of one week, as well as two weeks following end of exposure. Also a control group not exposed to disinfectant was included. DNA was extracted and subjected to amplicon-based microbiome analysis in order to study large-scale effects to the microbiome, and the ability of the microbiome to reconstitute following end-of-treatment. A questionnaire-based investigation was also included to accompany the sequence datasets. In addition, cellular and molecular effects of the antiseptic to model bacterial species are included as part of the project.
