"Studying hypertension in pregnancy:  methods, challenges, and opportunities.  An interactive workshop"

In this interactive workshop, we will focus on methods and design choices for observational studies examining questions related to hypertension in pregnancy – a condition that affects up to 10% of pregnancies and conveys substantial risks to the pregnant person and the fetus.  We will first review some basic clinical information to set the stage for additional discussions.  Next we will discuss different methodologic choices and their pros and cons, including approaches for measuring the underlying condition, choosing an appropriate comparator group, addressing potential confounding, and selecting and measuring study outcomes.  We will aim to provide learning opportunities for people new to this area as well as experienced researchers.
