At UiB, we celebrate the international day for Women in Mathematics (May 12) with the event "Celebrating Women in Mathematics" on May 3rd. The program is in two parts, allowing for digital participation (zoom) for part 1. The zoom link will be sent the day before the event.

Event Horizon har blitt en kultfilm siden den floppet på kino i 1997, og med nye gjennombrudd i forskningen på sorte hull er den stadig aktuell: I 2019 fikk vi for første gang se et bilde av et sort hull, og i 2022 kom det første bildet av hullet i sentrum av vår egen galakse – tatt av Event Horizon Telescope.

Skal vi finne gode løsninger på klimaendringene må vi forstå hvordan naturen henger sammen. Men, hva om naturen spiller oss et puss og avdekker nye trusler i det vi er i ferd med å knekke koden?

Darwin Day 2023 covers the Skagerrak, Kattegat, and Oslofjord initiative: Using genomics, evolution and ecology for knowledge-based management of the critically endangered Skagerrak, Kattegat and Oslofjord Area.

Eivind Undheim will be presenting exciting research on ant venoms and toxins.

Open lectures by Catherine (Katie) Peichel and Dag Undlien. The topic covers reconciling Mendelian genetics and Darwinian evolution, and how genetics is used in modern medicine.

The event consists of short lectures followed by a conversation between the lecturers. The event is held in Norwegian.

In connection with Gregor Mendel's 200 year anniversary, there will be an event that includes lectures, a guided tour of the Marine Research Station Drøbak and dinner. The lectures covers Gregor Mendel and his contributions to science, the geneticist Kristine Bonnevie, modern genetics and genomics and more. Registration is necessary. The event is held in Norwegian.

Open lectures by Detlef Weigel (Max Planck Institute for Biology Tübingen, Germany) and Anna Wargelius (Institute of Marine Research, Norway). Darwin Day is an international recognition of science and humanity, held in memory of Charles Darwin.

Monday 7th February Agata Krzesińska will give a talk  at the "Waiting for Pint of Science - Polish edition" on "Norwegian meteorites – how to find them and why to study".

Associate professor Dr. Rafi Ahmad, Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Applied Ecology, Agricultural Sciences and Biotechnology, presents his trial lecture with the title "Teaching medicinal chemistry of HMGCoA reductase inhibitors using computational medicinal chemistry methods".

Research group leader Dr. Antonella di Pizio, Leibniz-Institute for Food Systems Biology at the Technical University of Munich (Leibniz-LSB@TUM), presents her trial lecture with the title "Teaching medicinal chemistry of HMGCoA reductase inhibitors using computational medicinal chemistry methods".

Dr. Osman Gani, Oslo University Hospital, The Norwegian Childhood Diabetes Registry, presents his trial lecture with the title "Teaching medicinal chemistry of HMGCoA reductase inhibitors using computational medicinal chemistry methods".
