First 4DSpace Numerical Workshop

Seven master and PhD students from University of Oslo traveled as far as to Kobe in Japan to study the interaction between the rocket and the ionospheric plasma together with their Japanese colleagues.

In the last week of June we had a successful First 4DSpace Numerical Workshop. Seven master and PhD students from University of Oslo traveled as far as to Kobe in Japan to study the interaction between the rocket and the ionospheric plasma together with their Japanese colleagues. An intensive week of lectures and simulations on a supercomputer led to excellent results that will support ionospheric plasma experiments, which are carried out with sounding rockets both in Norway and Japan.

Of course, we also had a chance to experience Japanese at its whole: learn the culture, enjoy Japanese food and hospitality, and admire both ancient and ultra-modern country of the cherry blossom.

The workshop has been organized jointly by the University of Oslo and Kobe University, and was the part of the Japan-Norway Partnership Programme. In the First 4DSpace Numerical Workshop we participated together 20 students and 4 lecturers from both Japan and Norway. For more details on this programme and to check other opportunities see the website: http://www.mn.uio.no/4dspace/education/04_japan-norway.html

The next workshop will be organized in Oslo in September this year. The Japan-Norway Partnership Programme is supported by the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education in cooperation with the Research Council of Norway.
