ESA/FORSWAR

In the project Forecasting Space Weather in the Arctic Region (FORSWAR) we aim to prototype a new advanced space weather forecasting model for the satellite-based Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) users in the Greenland area. We will develop new techniques for the space weather forecasting and demonstrate their advantage over existing models. Our new model will also give a readable map over Greenland indicating weak, moderate and severe disturbances in the PNT applications for general users.

Project

This website presents the the activity of Forecasting Space Weather in the Arctic Region (FORSWAR) as part of the ESA ITT “Forecasting Space Weather Impacts on Navigation Systems in the Arctic (Greenland Area)” Expro+, Activity No. 1000026374 (ESA-star system).

The overall objective of this activity is to develop and demonstrate new techniques which are expected to improve on the current state-of-the-art Space Weather forecasting techniques and products related to Space Weather effects for Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) systems in the Arctic, with particular attention to the Greenland area. For this purpose, the activity shall investigate and test innovative methods for monitoring and predicting Space Weather impacts on PNT in that area. This activity shall be based on an experimentation testbed, in which new or enhanced forecast Space Weather products will be derived.
