Part Time and Leave of Absence

Master's students at the Department of Physics may apply for an extension in the form of part-time studies, leave of absence or a short extension. Different rules and deadlines apply for the different kinds of extensions. Read more about this in the menu below.

Part time studies

You can apply to do your masters part time. The programme council can approve up to 50% part time. Valid reasons for applying for a part-time program may include teaching assignments, employment, organized student activities of a certain magnitude, a caretaker role, or chronic illness. Written documentation is required. The application form must be completed and signed by the supervisor and yourself and delivered to the program coordinator. Part time is only approved for the current or future semesters, not for past semesters.

Deadline

30. June for the following fall term.
31. December for the following spring term, or as soon as you have obtained the required documentation.

During the first term of your master studies the deadline is 1. September.


Leave of absence

You can apply to the program council for a leave of absence from the study programme.

Extension

You may apply for an extension if unforeseen problems occur with your project, or if you, your supervisor, or your children fall ill in the short-term.

Deadline 

There is no deadline for applications for an extension due to acute circumstances.

Here we use a common UiO-form, you will find more information about it on the web site.

You have to choose the correct faculty (The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and institute (the Department of Physics), choose master’s degree, and fill in the subject code for your master’s degree as shown below.
