Electrically configurable antenna for radar material inspection and imaging

Design and evaluate antennas for efficient release of wideband microwave energy into materials where the ideal matching conditions can only be approximated.

Develop and validate a collection of "building blocks" that allows for electrically configuring the EM imager for different types of materials using e.g,

- antenna with stable characteristics over a range of permittivities, e.g., Dk 1-2, or Dk 3-6.
- tunable resistive loading .
- replaceable matching slabs of combined low-loss dielectric materials.
- replaceable metamaterial superstrate.

The intended application is radar material inspection in the 2-6 GHz band.  The project intend to fabricate prototype antennas for use with Equanostics handheld 3D scanner .

Equanostic AS is looking for new ideas and solutions related to its radar material inspection and imaging application. Typically these measurements are performed on mediums where the ideal matching conditions can only be approximated, either because the material characteristic is not perfectly known or that uneven surfaces contain air-pockets between the antenna and target material.
