This project will explore the use of an optical MEMS (Micro-Electrical Mechanical Systems) accelerometer to detect fine-level scratches, movements, or finger tapping on a surface.
Relevant tasks and research focus:
- Make PCB and readout hardware/electronics for accelerometer (extend to arrays).
- Sample analogue signals (touch events) and demodulate (inv cosine).
- Make an array of accelerometers with separators to avoid cross-talk, preferable in portable housing.
- Examine array data
- If time permits: detect and track touch events
