Understanding auroral dynamics using machine learning

Image analysis using machine learning algorithms has matured significantly in the last decades. This project leverages these developments to study the dynamics of the aurora.

The section for Space and Plasma Physics has been operating auroral cameras for over a decade, collecting hundred thousands of images. The objective of this project is to study the dynamics of the aurora using modern machine learning algorithms. In particular, classifying images using neural networks and transfer learning in order to understand the temporal dynamics will be studies in this project.
