The 2021 Else-Ragnhild Neumann Award for Women in Geosciences

The recipient of the Else-Ragnhild Neumann Award for Women in Geosciences for 2021 is Dr. Loise Mary Vick, from UiT The Arctic University of Norway.

The Award Winner 2021

The international committee for the Else-Ragnhild Neumann Award for Women in Geosciences concluded that Loise Mary Vick deserves recognition due to her research within geosciences, more specific in the research field geohazards and engineering geology.  

Loise Mary Vick took her Ph.D. in Earth Sciences in Engineering Geology in 2015, at University of Canterbury, New Zealand. Her Ph.D. focused on modelling and hazard analysis of the earthquake-triggered rockfalls on the Port Hills in Christchurch, following the Canterbury earthquake sequence. Vick later worked as Engineering Geologist and Environmental Scientist in private companies, and came to UiT The Arctic University of Norway in 2017. Here she worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow, Researcher and now from June 2020 as Associate Professor.

The nomination letter for Louise Mary Vick states that:

"The application was very strong and convincing. Her work is important, and based on different type of observations including remote sensing and modelling. It has clear societal implications, and the winner spends a significant part of her time to serve the community. 

The prize winner has received national and international recognition within the field of geohazards and engineering geology. Her work is innovative and highly relevant to advance the understanding of the behavior of unstable mountain slopes in a changing climate."
