Every year, talented young researchers are awarded prestigious grants from the ERC Starting Grant scheme from the European Research Council/EU. Two of the lucky ones who received the prestigious funding in the award that was announced on 5 September (link; pdf) are employed at the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo.

The two researchers who receive ERC Starting Grants are:
Norbert Pirk, Researcer at the Section for geography and hydrology (GeoHyd); Department of Geosciences.
Norbert receives support for the research project entitled:

Paul Yves Jean Antonio, Postdoctoral Fellow at the ERC-Consolidator Grant project EPIC (PI Mathew Michael Domeier) affiliated to - Centre for planetary habitability – PHAB, one of the scientific sections at Dept of Geosciences. Paul receives support for his research project entitled:
Unravelling the first Babbles of the Earth Inner Core History – UBEICH.

About The ERC Starting Grants funding
ERC Starting Grants are awarded to promising researchers who submitted their doctoral degree two to seven years ago. Applicants must have demonstrated potential for independent research and scientific maturity. Starting grants are part of the program's Pillar I 'Excellent Science’ and consist of grants of up to 1.5 million euros for research projects with a duration of up to five years.
