Epic journey through a landscape of contrasts

In a tent in minus 17 degrees in the Bolivian high mountain plateau, Altiplano, a desert that looks like a painting by Salvador Dalí, the world's largest salt flat. These are just some of the experiences Olivier Galland and Caroline Sassier write about in GEO ExPro from their journey by bike along the mighty landscape of the Andes in South America.

In connection with a geo-communication project related to teaching and outreach in geosciences to students in France and Oslo, two researchers Olivier Galland and Caroline Sassier went on a magnificent journey along the Andes. The Andes Mountains are the world's longest mountain range and goes through a number of countries near the west coast of South America.

Great interest in geo-outreach and geotourism

On the trip along the Andes, Olivier and Caroline visited as many as 30 geological sites, they explored these and communicated what they observed to the students via their blog.

There has been great interest in the epic journey, made exclusively by bicycle, and over huge distances.

There have been exhibitions of photos they took of the contrasting and colorful landscape, as well as published several articles in geotourism from the journey including the international magazine GEO ExPro. Most recently in an article in the September issue of the magazine.
