Greenland ice sheet sea-level projections.
Abstract:
The Greenland ice sheet (GrIS) is one of the largest contributors to global mean sea-level rise today and is expected to continue losing mass in the future under increasing Arctic warming. GrIS mass loss is expected to be caused by decreasing surface mass balance and by the thinning and retreat of marine-terminating outlet glaciers. Modelling the evolution of the ice sheet with physically based models of various complexity has become the key ingredient to inform assessments of future sea-level rise, one of the most prominent consequences of human induced global climate change. In this talk I will discuss the design and results of the Ice Sheet Model Intercomparison Project for CMIP6 and other ongoing activities focused on improving GrIS sea-level projections.
