GEOHYD Lunch Seminar: Schuler & Westermann: New projects MAMMAMIA and permafrost

Welcome to our GEOHYD Lunch Seminar Friday 4th of March @ 12:15 in Aud. 2, Geology building or via videolink using Zoom. The seminar is helt by Schuler & Westermann, Dept of Geosciences.

Seminar by Thomas Schuler and Sebastian Westermann, Dept of Geosciences.

Schuler & Westermann: New projects MAMMAMIA and permafrost

Abstract:
 – Thomas Schuler:  MAMMAMIA – Multi-scAle-Multi-Method Analysis of Mechanisms causing Ice Acceleration.

Sliding of ice is a major player in controlling the glacier contribution to sea-level rise, yet it is poorly understood. MAMMAMIA focuses on the interface dynamics at the base of glaciers to determine how subglacial friction and fine scale ice dynamics respond to temporal changes in meltwater supply. MAMMAMIA collects synchronous, high-resolution records of ice velocity along with associated cryo-seismicity and the hydro-glaciological context.

 – Sebastian Westermann: We provide an overview over current and newly starting projects on permafrost. These are Permafrost4Life (Permafrost in Mongolia), H2020 Nunataryuk (land to sea fluxes from permafrost environments), ESA Permafrost_CCI (satellite-based mapping of permafrost thermal state), PCCH-Arctic (cultural heritage on permafrost on Svalbard) and BioGov (carbon cycling in permafrost and boreal regions).  We in particular report on the progress of the CryoGrid Cryosphere model which is used in all projects.

It is possible to attend physically or to participate digitally at the seminar

Videolink to the lecture will be sent to the mailinglists alle@geo and geohyd-info@geo. If you want to subscribe to the geohyd-info@geo list send an email to Anita
