Oslo joint seminar in atmospheric, ocean and climate science, Piers Forster

Atmospheric and climate sciences have a stronghold in Oslo among the four institutions University of Oslo, the Meteorological Institute, CICERO and NILU. This joint seminar invites renowned international experts to contribute to an informal series of lectures, meant to create interaction with the Oslo atmospheric and climate science community on recent highlights and analysis in the field. All seminars will be held on Thursdays (Noon -1pm) and lunch (sandwiches) will be served on a “first-come-first-served”-basis.

Title:

 Is 1.5C feasible?

Abstract:

With the planned publication of the IPCC special report on 1.5C on 9 October, there is still a debate about how feasible such a target is.  I will discuss the report's findings in the context of several aspects relating to the feasibility of achieving 1.5C. On the physical climate side, internal variability, climate sensitivity, short -lived climate forcers and Earth system feedbacks all affect our chances, on the economic and social science side - it’s the strength of mitigation efforts..
