Education and research in Environmental Geoscience allow you to:

  • Learn about the Earth's past conditions its future can be protected
  • Evaluate, control, and remedy critical environmental issues and risks of local and global importance
  • Build expertise for addressing acute environmental challenges in geoscience systems, particularly in hydrogeology and water quality, soils, geoenergy resources, subsurface storage, and waste disposals.

We investigate mechanisms and processes in the field and laboratory. We study contaminants and nutrients in the environment. We develop theoretical and numerical models to quantify and predict the evolution of fluid-rock systems in time and space. We elucidate biogeochemical reactions shaping the environment and altering the environmental biomes. We explore nanoscale and microscale phenomena to delineate systems of continuum-scale and global relevance.
