Lithuania

Two impact craters have been discovered in Lithuania, the Mizarai and Vepriai structures. Presumably impact related breccia is widely distributed on the base of Devonian, the Narva suite.  Few small postglacial depressions are suspected as impact craters. The craters are investigated in course of mapping and prospecting, but only superficially. No systematic research is currently undertaken. Data on impact craters in Lithuania and adjacent territories are stored and analysed by the research group at the Vilnius University.  The education on impact cratering is carried out as a part of general course of metamorphic petrology.
