Event description

 

On September 3, 1977, a flood originated from a series of lakes on and below the Nare Glacier in the Mingbo Valley west of the summit of Ama Dablam. The flood caused the release of about 4,9 Mio m3 of water.

Remarks

 

This flood was recognized in the record of a stream gaging station 60 km downstream, and was the first event in the region to receive much scientific study.
