Event description

 

On September 3, 1977, a flood originated from a series of lakes on and below the Nare Glacier in the Mingbo Valley west of the summit of Ama Dablam. The flood caused the release of about 4,9 Mio m³ of water.

Remarks

 

This flood was recognized in the record of a stream gaging station 60 km downstream, and was the first event in the region to receive much scientific study.
