Event description

 

On July 21, 1953, 10`000 m³ water flowed out a thermocarst lake at the foot of Weissmies. The water flowed over a steep blocglacier front (30 �). Backwards erosion occured and lowered the draining channel. The debris flow reached the first houses of Saas Almagell. Considerable crop damage occured.
