The Polish-Norwegian CCS Network

About the project

A research and technological network linking Norwegian and Polish entities, fostering collaboration in the dynamic realm of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).

Polish-Norwegian CCS Network strives to play a pivotal role in fostering the necessary groundwork for successful collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two nations. Together, we aspire to make significant contributions to the deployment of emission reduction technologies, engage with the general public, and address the challenges of climate change, paving the way for a sustainable future.

Objectives

The primary objective is to forge a comprehensive bilateral network across Norwegian and Polish industrial, academic, and policymaking sectors.

The overarching goal is cultivating and expediting collaborative ventures in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies, bridging business and research.

Background

Drawing on Norway's global leadership in CCS research and industrial deployment, we aim to leverage unparalleled opportunities presented by its advanced facilities and ongoing commercial projects across the entire CCS chain. Simultaneously, recognizing Poland's growing interest in CCS technologies and its government's commitment to achieving net-zero by 2050, our initiative seeks to facilitate essential groundwork during Poland's developmental phase of national strategies and legislation for CCS deployment.

In our proactive approach, we conduct streamlined workshops in Poland and Norway to map competencies and identify industry and academic sector collaboration areas. Beyond these, we organize a CCS Summer School, a capstone CCS Symposium in Poland, B2B meetings, and industrial visits to Norway's CCS activities. These efforts contribute to an ongoing dialogue and solidify outcomes from this collaborative initiative, aiming to bridge expertise gaps and foster dynamic interactions that propel both nations towards sustainable advancements in CCS technologies.

Financing

Financial support for this bilateral initiative between Poland and Norway is provided through the EEA and Norway Grants designed for Green Transition collaborations.

The period for the project and cooperation is 2023 – 2024.

Cooperation

The Polish-Norwegian CCS Network is a consortium led by AGH University of Krakow (Poland), with partners including the University of Oslo and Norwegian Energy Partners (NORWEP). Link to partners below:
