Software Acknowledgement
Many of us use either open source or commercial software in their research. It is common sense to acknowledge and cite where necessary, the use of these types of software. The department has several University Grant agreements with some software providers that do specifically require us to acknowledge and cite the use of their software in research publications and presentations. In the acknowledgements of a publication using one or more specific software packages, the vendor should be acknowledged for the use of the specific software. In addition, any figure taken from the software needs a vendor and software citation in the figure caption. This counts also for Master theses, therefore we encourage supervisors to follow up on this. The vendor may stop providing us with licenses if we do not apply this.
The department has acquired free University Grants for the following software packages. Please refer to these is you have used these in your research. If a software you use is not listed here, it is either
- Open source
- Paid for
- Unknown to IT
Take contact if you are in doubt whether to cite or not.
